What I'm Seeing in Online Business Right Now — And What It Means for You

My honest take on the trends shaping how women entrepreneurs show up online.

I spend a lot of time in the online business world — working with coaches, therapists, and service providers, building websites, managing behind-the-scenes tasks, and just generally paying attention to what's shifting.

And lately, I've been noticing some real changes in how women entrepreneurs are navigating their online presence. Some of it is exciting. Some of it is a little overwhelming. And some of it is just confirming what I've believed for a while.

Here's my honest take on what I'm seeing — and what I think it actually means for your business.

People are craving real connection — not just polished content

There's been a noticeable shift away from picture-perfect, highly curated content toward something more genuine. Clients are telling me they want their website and brand to feel like them — not like a generic template or a corporate brochure.

And honestly? I think that's a good thing. Women-owned small businesses have always had an edge when it comes to authenticity. Your story, your personality, your "why" — those are things a big agency can't replicate.

What this means for you: Don't be afraid to let your personality show on your website. The about page that feels a little vulnerable? Write it. The photo that shows the real you instead of the "professional" version? Use it. Connection converts.

AI is everywhere — and it's creating both opportunity and noise

I'd be ignoring the obvious if I didn't mention AI. It's changing how content gets created, how websites are built, and how small business owners manage their workload.

My honest take: AI tools can be genuinely helpful for brainstorming, drafting, and saving time. But they can also make the internet feel a lot more generic if everyone's using the same prompts and calling it done.

What this means for you: Your voice and your perspective matter more now, not less. Using AI as a starting point is smart. But the businesses that stand out are the ones adding their real opinions, real stories, and real expertise on top of it. That human layer is your competitive advantage.

Women entrepreneurs are scaling — but burnout is real

I work primarily with women-owned businesses, and something I see again and again is this: incredible women doing incredible work — and doing way too much of it alone.

The trend toward outsourcing and delegation is growing, and I think that's because more business owners are realizing that trying to do everything yourself isn't a badge of honor. It's a fast track to burnout.

What this means for you: Getting support — whether that's a VA, a designer, or just a system that works better — isn't a luxury. It's how you build something sustainable. The businesses I see thriving are the ones where the owner is focused on their zone of genius and letting others handle the rest.

Simple websites are outperforming complicated ones

This one is close to my heart because I talk about it all the time. There's still a belief out there that a "good" website means lots of pages, lots of information, and lots of options. But what I'm consistently seeing — and what the data backs up — is that simpler websites convert better.

Visitors make decisions fast. If they land on your site and can't immediately understand what you do, who you serve, and how to take the next step, they're gone.

What this means for you: Less is more. A clean, clear, well-designed website with a focused message will almost always outperform a busy one with too much going on. If your site feels cluttered or overwhelming, that's worth paying attention to.

My overall take

The online business landscape is shifting quickly, but the fundamentals haven't changed: be real, be clear, and build something that actually supports your life — not just your revenue goals.

If any of this is making you think about your own website or business setup, I'd love to talk. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes is all it takes to figure out what's working, what's not, and what to tackle next.
